Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I find out which credits will transfer to UNL?

You can look at the Transfer Equivalency List. Or you can use the Nebraska Community College Guide or the Equivalency List for UNK, UNL and UNO. Go to the Transfer Admissions page. Point to "Transferring College Credit" and a menu will appear. Select the link you need. Your college will determine how the credit is applied to your degree. Your academic adviser should be able to assist you.

Q: What happens to my GPA from my previous school?

Transfer Grades become part of your UNL GPA if the courses were taken at the University of Nebraska-Omaha or the University of Nebraska-Kearney. Grades from other schools are reviewed for acceptance, but are not included in your final grade point average.

Q: Can Transfer students participate in the Honors Program?

Yes. Transfer students fill out a special application and the review of their credentials focuses on their performance in college courses rather than their high school record or ACT/SAT scores. Find more information on the Honors Program website. Transfer students meet with the Program director to agree on program requirements the student will have to fulfill to graduate from Nebraska Honors. Transfer students from schools other than University of Nebraska system campuses are eligible for the Honors Program Book Scholarship. The Honors Program will accept honors credits earned at other institutions and will apply them to the student's honors obligation at UNL.
The application is available at http://admissions.unl.edu/applications/transferhonors.pdf

Q: After I'm admitted, how do I sign up for classes?

All students participate in our New Student Enrollment program (NSE). Transfer students will be sent information from NSE after they are admitted. There are some special days designated for transfer students admitted for the summer/fall terms in March, April and May and for students admitted for the spring term in October and November. We also have a summer NSE program that is held in June and July that transfer students may attend.

Q: How do I get an undergraduate Bulletin?

The Undergraduate Bulletin contains information about all programs of undergraduate study offered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. All admitted undergraduate students will automatically receive a printed copy of the current Undergraduate Bulletin at no charge during New Student Enrollment.
