Diversity Scholarships

To Apply for the Diversity Enhancement Scholarships:

Summer Institute for Promising Scholars (SIPS)

Sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Studies

SIPS is a six-week, summer bridging residential program for high school seniors that will be attending the University in the fall. The program is designed to facilitate a smooth and successful transition to University life for students who bring diversity to the freshman class.

Award: 2008 summer tuition, fees, room and board, plus books. Upon successful completion of the SIPS program, students who enroll full-time the following academic year at UNL are awarded a $1,000 scholarship, $500 each semester.

Selection Criteria:

Membership in an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, life experiences growing up in an economically disadvantaged condition, first student from family to attend college, life experiences in a culturally diverse neighborhood or community, Demonstrate strong academic potential, leadership, community service experiences in the school or community.

Health Sciences Scholarship

UNL Office of Undergraduate Studies and University of Nebraska Medical Center

The Health Sciences Scholarship identifies academically promising students interested in health science careers that statistically have low college-going rates. Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria:

  • Show academic promise
  • Students from a diverse racial, ethnic, cultural backgrounds
  • Possess strong leadership potential
  • Have a strong desire to work in the Health Sciences field

Award: Health Science Scholars to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will automatically be granted tuition support for their freshman year.

Davis-Chambers Scholarship

The Davis-Chambers Scholarship recognizes academically promising students from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds who often find that the financial requirements of postsecondary education are a major obstacle.
Qualified applicants should at least meet the following criteria:

  • Membership in a racial, ethnic, cultural group
  • Graduate of a Nebraska High School
  • Resident of the state of Nebraska

Award: Full direct cost of attendance at UNL. Student must complete a FAFSA.

Native American Heritage Scholarship

Native American tribes are woven into the fabric of Nebraska. Recognizing this, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) offers the Native American Heritage Scholarship for freshman and Undergraduate Students and the Native American Community/College Transfer Scholarship.

Freshman and Undergraduate Scholarship - Eligibility requirements

To identify academically promising students who have knowledge of and experience in the Native American community and strive to create opportunities in the advancement of this unique culture.

Award: Depends on financial need. The range per academic year will be from $2,000 to the full direct of attendance. Freshman scholarship is renewable for four years, transfers two years.

Tribal College Scholarship

Students attending Tribal Colleges - Eligibility requirements

  • Students in progress or completed degree at one of the many tribal colleges are eligible. Subject to complete review of academic profile including course work and grades.

List of Tribal Colleges include: Blackfeet Community College, Cheyenne River Community College, Dull Knife Memorial College, Fort Belknap College, fort Berthaold Community College, fort Peck community College, Haskell Indian Nations University, Little Big Horn College, Little Priest Tribal College, Nebraska Indian Community College, Oglala Lakota College, Sinte Gleska University, Sisseton Wahpeton Community College, Sitting Bull College, Turtle Mountain Community College, and United Tribes Technical College.

  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 at during previous coursework.

Award: Resident tuition for up to 135 credit hours or completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first, inclusive of all undergraduate coursework at all postsecondary education institutions attended. Student must complete the FAFSA.

Other Specialty Awards

NEBRASKA is committed to recruiting a diverse student body. Students who are from low-income or disadvantaged families, are the first to go to college, and/or are members of an under-represented minority group will all be considered for the following scholarships just by applying for admission and completing a FAFSA.

You may be eligible for other scholarships by completing your Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) form.

  • Nebraska Achievement Scholarship: $1,000 or tuition waiver for four years
  • Larson Scholarship: award varies
  • Gupta Scholarship: room and board for students interested in the physical sciences
