Suggested Courses to Remove UNL Admission Deficiencies for Students who Graduated High School January 1997 or Later

Units Required for Admission Courses to clear the deficiency [one community college course = one unit (year) of high school work]

English:
4 units Intensive reading & writing experience

  • ENGL 1010 English Composition I
  • ENGL 1020 English Composition II
  • ENGL 2450 Intro to Literature

Foreign Language:
2 units
in one language

  • FREN 1020 Beginning French II (some students may need to complete FREN 1010 to prepare for FREN 1020; FREN 1020 is the course which will fulfill the UNL admission deficiency)
  • SPAN 1120 Elementary Spanish II ( some students may need to complete SPAN 1110 to prepare for SPAN 1120; SPAN 1120 is the course which will fulfill the UNL admission deficiency)

Mathematics: 4 units
Algebra I
Algebra II
Geometry
A fourth year that builds on algebra

  • Algebra I: MATH 0920 + MATH 0921 Beginning Algebra OR MATH 0960 Accelerated Beginning Algebra.
  • Geometry: MATH 1260 Geometry
  • Second Year High School Algebra: MATH 1310 Intermediate Algebra
  • Fourth Year Math (course that builds upon Algebra II): MATH 1420 College Algebra or MATH 1430 Trigonometry

Natural Sciences: 3 units
At least 2 from biology, chemistry, physics & earth sciences.
At least one lab.

If you are deficient in a lab, you MUST take a science course that has a lab.

  • BIOS 1010 Intro to Biology (has a lab)
  • CHEM 1010 College Chemistry (has a lab)
  • CHEM 121C General Chemistry I (has a lab)
  • CHEM 122A General Chemistry I (has a lab)
  • CHEM 122B General Chemistry I (has a lab)
  • GEOG 1150 Physical Geography (has a lab)
  • SCIE 1010 Intro to Physical Science (has a lab)

Social Sciences: 3 units
One or 2 units History AND 1 or 2 units American government, geography or one other social science

  • GEOG 1010 Fundamentals of Geography
  • GEOG 1050 Intro to Human Geography
  • GEOG 2150 World Regional Geography
  • HIST 1010 U.S. History I
  • HIST 1020 U.S. History II
  • HIST 1110 World Civilization I
  • HIST 1120 World Civilization II
  • POLS 2050 American National Government
  • PSYC 1120 Human Growth and Development
  • SOCI 1010 Introduction to Sociology
