Removing Admission Deficiencies

Students who have University of Nebraska-Lincoln Admission Deficiencies are strongly encouraged to complete the necessary courses that will remove their deficiencies PRIOR to enrolling at NEBRASKA.

Students can clear their admission deficiencies by completing an appropriate course(s) through:

  • UNL's Office of Extended Education & Outreach
UNL's Office of Extended Education & Outreach Independent Study Program offers many courses at the college and high school levels. For more information, call the office at (402) 472-2175 or visit their website at: Extended Education & Outreach. Students who have a high school diploma must take college level courses to remove an admissions deficiency.
  • Community Colleges
Students may also choose to fulfill their requirement by completing courses at a community college. Select a community college from the links on the right to determine appropriate deficiency removal.

If you are an out-of-state student and wish to full the requirement by completing courses at your local community college, you are welcome to contact the Office of Admissions to determine which courses to take.

Note: One college semester equivalent course must be successfully completed to remove any fraction of one unit of deficiency (e.g. students who have 1/2 unit deficiency in 4th year math must complete one college semester of an appropriate course to remove the deficiency).

The student's UNL undergraduate college makes the decision as to how courses used to remove Admission deficiencies will apply toward the student's degree program. The College of Architecture, College of Business Administration, and Human Sciences DO NOT count deficiency courses toward ANY degree requirement. The College of Journalism and the College of Arts and Sciences count deficiency courses ONLY towards free elective degree requirements.
