Service Learning
The University offers programs in both academic and co-curricular service learning.
- Academic Service-Learning
ASL is a program that integrates community outreach with academic study and research. Courses that use Service-Learning as a component enrich the student’s knowledge of course material, increase self-awareness and civic responsibility, and foster UNL’s involvement within diverse local communities.
- Co-Curricular Service-Learning
Students can get more from their college experience through volunteering. You can connect with the community, make professional contacts, develop personal skills and interests, and learn about yourself in the process. Service-Learning sponsors Community Challenge—an online volunteer opportunity database—Alternative Spring Break trips, Pepsi Service Scholars, and Volunteer Recognition, among others.
- THE BIG EVENT
The Big Event is a one-day service event bringing UNL students, faculty, and staff together to meet the needs of the larger Lincoln community to say "Thanks", for the continual support of UNL. The Big Event is held in late March or early April each year. Find more information at http://bigevent.unl.edu
